April theme

4/1/2013

It's April everyone!  Yeah...spring is just  around the corner.  You know...renewal, cleansing, shedding, and all that.  I'm pretty excited.  I hope you all have a wonderful April and that you get to take a lot of pictures to make this month memorable.
What do you think of Black & White...This month's theme!!!! I haven't worked out all the kinks yet, but this is the theme.  So stay with me and comment at the very bottom if you have questions, kind words, or just plain anything at all to say.  Because I put the whole month on this one post, you have to scroll down to the bottom of the page each day if you wish to comment.  Well, time to get going!
Love what you shoot!

Wow another month gone!  hard to believe.  So black and white was more challenging than I expected.  I also feel like I didn't quite capture the best of B&W...I do love colors and I do have excuses...I broke my foot, limiting my mobility.  Well....that's about all the excuses but that one is big enough! I might actually use this theme again later in the year.  Hope you enjoyed it just the same.

Love what you shoot!  See you in May.

The weather is still pretty scruffy!  pretty soon that scruff will turn a beautiful green!

My new tea mugs.  They're beautiful, made out of glass, and have a sponge surround so you don't burn yourself....so cool!

I was playing with a couple of flashlights for lighting...very small flashlights and the rest of the room was in total darkness....fun stuff!

I took this picture of Melissa and Alex for their engagement!  They are such a sweet couple.

The two below are a couple of pictures I took in my backyard.  No more snow, the ground is dry enough to walk comfortably and I was able to get close enough to the small oak tree in the yard.  There are still leaves on it that didn't fall from last fall and the sun was kissing the leaves in beautiful ways...Although black and white, you can still feel the sun on them.
Love what you shoot!

This is the first time this has happened.  I went away from the 18th to the 21st and did not take any pictures.  I was suffering from withdrawal and I feel terrible.  To make up for it, I took a few extras in the last couple of days. The bottom of the next two is an outcropping of rocks in my backyard (it's huge back there).  All the snow around was melted except for this outcropping.  It just never gets sun!  I'm just imagine the ocean at the bottom of it.  The one directly below is the last of the snow in my yard by the canoe.  The morning light was just beautiful and I was pretty sure that the next time I looked out there, the snow would be all gone!

There's a crop of skinny trees just outside of Sudbury and before the snow melted, I took a picture of them...I just like how they looked.

Back to kitchen gear...I love glass jars, reflections and bling!  Even in black and white.

My backyard beauty...this beautiful Mallard lady graced my backyard and let me take pictures of her without any fear.  The pic looks amazing in color as the blue in her wing is the most beautiful shade of blue...the male decided to hide from me
even though he stayed close to her.

Sunday we took a car ride!  I knew there'd be an opportunity for some pretty cool pictures.  Everything was calm and beautiful after the snow fall.  It was also very white....perfect for my theme.

It was snowing on Saturday, so I went down the road a little and snapped this picture from the side of the road but not leaving my car...I put the window down.  Snow on April 13th...yuck! but pics are nice.

So let's continue with the dishes theme....So different...with this one, I tried to keep more dark in the picture.  The glass gives it light and dimension...

I really just wondered what a picture with mostly pattern would look like in mostly white.  There's just a little shadow around to be able to make out what the subject is but the purpose was more to have an art piece rather than a more functional piece...

Meet Finn!  Cute mix between a Beagle and a Basset Hound!  10 month old puppy....full of energy!  Try to take pictures of a constantly moving puppy. So, fast shutter speed to capture him in movement and still get a pretty sharp pic.  Loved turning the photo into black and white.  His coloring suited this process perfectly.  Took the ugly couch background away to put a lightly polka dot paper behind him and lit the side of him.  Just had to fall in love!

No need for words...very simple. Notice the gradient of light on the egg?  How many shades between white and black?

Look at that, there's hardly no snow left on our canoe.  The only bad thing about B&W photography is for  some pics, it's almost a shame to not see the color...like the shiny, wet, red of the canoe....It was shining in the sun....but it still turned out pretty cool.

Well here we go.  B&W photography is very cool.  There's so much you can do to be a little more creative.  Because of all of my work in composites over the last month,  I get to do some combination things with this theme every once in a while.  For this one, I took a picture of a pear, and created a new paper....duplicated the pear picture and moved it to the side, framed it and put it on top of the blended background...I'm going to enjoy B&W photography.  The other thing I want to mention is that B&W might also mean white or black objects so it might encompass different things...so enjoy the month and let's do it together.
Love what you shoot!

ABOUT ME

After more than 20 years, I decided to spend some of my retirement time renewing an old interest.  I was a potter for 23 years and then gave it up when we moved. I sold my pottery studio, took a position as a bookstore manager and didn't look back.  Now, I'm retired and revisiting this creative outlet.
Since all my pieces are hand built, they are all one-of-a-kind.  They're a little crooked, a little rough around the edges, and a little cheeky.  I hope you love them as much as I love making them.
At Cheeky Little Pot, every piece is hand-built, glazed and kiln fired.  Food-safe glazes are used and all pieces are created to provide a lasting, hands-on feeling experience.  Prices are listed under each photo.
At this time, only e-transfers will be accepted.  Any shipping charges will be added to the price of the piece.
Please contact Jolene at jolenelizotte@outlook.com for more information. I can also be reached at 705-280-5666.

I hope you enjoy my bit of whimsy!  Take a peek, it's a lot of fun!
Thanks    ~Jolene
